Special program about the current human rights situation in Afghanistan

On Friday 10 December it is Human Rights Day. The Freedom Museum in Groesbeek wants to reflect on this day with a fascinating afternoon in our movie theater about the current human rights situation in Afghanistan.

Dr. Massouda Jalal, former Minister of Women’s Affairs of Afghanistan (2004-2006), will give a lecture on the current situation in her home country. In addition, she was the first female presidential candidate in the history of Afghanistan (in 2002, 2004 and 2019). What the return of the Taliban could potentially mean for the right to education in Afghanistan will be discussed by drs. Daud Allajar, chairman of the Innovation in Education for Afghanistan Foundation (IEAF).

The IEAF manages a primary school in Kabul for underprivileged children. Sima Nabavi attended this school. At age eleven, she wrote and illustrated a story about a peace dove, who was unable to fly. Sadly, Sima passed away from leukemia last year. The Freedom Museum and the IEAF Foundation have had Sima’s story translated and had the booklet republished. The first copy will be unveiled during this afternoon.

The entire program will be in English. A reservation is required: call + 31 (0)24 397 44 04 or send an e-mail to mensenrechten@vrijheidsmuseum.nl. The entree fee is € 5.00 per person. The afternoon will start at 14.00h with Afghan appetizers.

Please note: due to the corona regulations, you will only be allowed entry to the Freedom Museum if you have a valid corona entry pass (QR-code) and proof of ID. If you are incapable of providing these, we are unfortunately unable to allow you entry.
