"People love unmasking double agents!"
Popular exhibition at Freedom Museum extended.
The exhibition ‘Double Agent’ takes you back in time. A near-dark alleyway, dimly lit by an old-timey streetlight… You will feel the allure of a different time and place. It seems like there is no one around, but think again! Many people have gone before you, opening the creaking doors, and using their sleuthing skills to unmask the four double agents.
Young visitors love this exhibition for its strong story and gameplay elements, but a surprising amount of adults have also gone to great lengths to solve the exhibition's riddles. Missed out? No worries! Because so many people enjoy this exhibition, it is being extended until the 5th of May 2024.
Meet the man who inspired the character James Bond, as well as a man who single-handledly fooled German intelligence services. Learn how the Enigma was cracked, how the attack on Pearl Harbor could have been prevented, and how double agents caused the Normandy landings to become historical successes. Pictures, videos and authentic objects bring the stories to life, with a real Enigma machine as the crown jewel. This machine will also be on loan for longer, thanks to the Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI, the Dutch research institute for mathematics & computer science).
Wander through the 1940s, discovering new stories and uncovering new mysteries behind each door. Crack a code in a prison cell, gamble at the casino and learn how to fool enemies at a military headquarters. This journey through the history of betrayal leads to the present: are there still real double agents today? How does misinformation work? Would you recognise fake news?
